Clinical interest: Paediatrics, developmental milestones, scoliosis screening
Rene completed her Physiotherapy degree at Curtin University in 1998, and spent the first twelve years of her career working in Paediatrics, primarily at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children. Here she specialised in acute care in the areas of Orthopaedics, Burns and Plastics, Hands, Amputee Rehabilitation, Oncology and Respiratory. As the Acting Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist Burns and Plastics, Rene was involved in the disaster management of the 2002 Bali Bombings. She then spent 3 years as the Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist Orthopaedics managing both inpatient and outpatient care. During this time Rene was seconded to Notre Dame University to help develop and lecture the paediatric modules for the undergraduate course. She is very experienced in physiotherapy education, having provided years of student supervision to both Notre Dame University and Curtin University.
Rene is also trained in Pilates and joined the team at KPC in 2017 working in Exercise Rehabilitation, and as a Physiotherapist working in Paediatrics. Offering individual consultations or class programs for injury rehabilitation and management, she is passionate about encouraging her clients to feel confident to move well, and enjoys working with individuals of all ages.
In Paediatrics, Rene is available to provide fun, play-based exercise rehabilitation programs for school aged children and teenagers, individually or in a class setting. She has a wide range of experience in childhood development and is also available to work with babies who are showing delay in achieving gross motor milestones, or torticollis/plagiocephaly (misshapen head). She has also completed training through the PCH Eating Disorders Department to enable her to provide exercise therapy to individuals who have transitioned into community care. Rene also provides a Scoliosis Screening service at Karrinyup Physio, where she can assess for early stages of scoliosis curvatures, refer for specialised scans and help coordinate scoliosis management within a multidisciplinary team.
At home, Rene loves spending time with her family and dog, baking and cooking, and looking after her indoor plants and garden.
